The Joseph H. Rainey Empowered Leadership Award is a lifetime achievement award named for Joseph H. Rainey, who was the first African American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives—and the namesake of the Rainey Center. It is given to an individual to honor their entire body of work in service of the center’s core values of advancing freedom, equality, and a more perfect union for all.
The Civic Excellence Award recognize efforts of outstanding civic engagement initiatives or activities.
